Hi.

Welcome to my blog where I share about my gardening adventures. Hope you have a nice stay!

Greenline, Melbourne

After a visit this morning to the Queen Victoria Markets for my usual borek and coffee (and a sneaky tiramisu danish) it was great to meander down to the newly opened stage one of the Greenline Project at Birrarung Marr on the north banks of the Yarra River.

It is really good to see the space opened up again and reimagined with pathways, gathering spaces and the intermittent walkways jutting out over the river. And it was great to see people interacting with the space again.

While the focal point/engagement for the general public will mostly be the river and the walkways, for us planty centric people it will be really good to watch how the newly planted indigenous plants settle in, get maintained and become a more substantive feature. Interspersed with eucalypts and banksias for succession planting of the existing elms, most plantings are low level plants along the riverbank.

I quite enjoyed seeing the materials used and how they inter-relate with each other. A combination of granitic sand, exposed aggregate paths, bluestone, steel walkways, gravel, plants, and timber/metal furniture are all used.

Here’s hoping that future stages come to fruition.
